Phoenix House California is currently
seeking a Counselor to work in our Lake Hughes Juvenile Probation Program. The
services provided are structured cognitive-behavioral mental health services
that target criminogenic risk factors. Treatment is focused on: building noncriminal alternative behaviors in
risky situations, building problem-solving self-management, anger management
and coping skills, reducing antisocial cogitation, recognizing risky thinking
and feeling, adopting a reform and/or ant criminal identity, reducing
association with criminals, and enhancing association with pro-social people.
The goal of the Phoenix House California
Juvenile Probation Program is to address offenders? criminogenic needs prior to
release and to facilitate a successful transition back to their communities in
order to reduce their likelihood of re-offending.
The Counselor
+ Deliver treatment
service to Participants;
+ Conduct group and
individual meetings;
+ Evaluate and document
the progress of the Participants assigned to their groups;
+ Work directly with the
Participants to develop and implement a treatment service plan;
+ Coordinate with
Transition/Continuing Care Counselor to develop a Community Services Plan and
transitional documents, as directed by California Department of Corrections and
Rehabilitation (CDCR), for continued community program activities;
+ Work with Participant to
create a support network of the Participants pending return to the community;
+ Shall work
collaboratively with the CDCR and institutional staff.
+ The Counselor shall possess high school
diploma or its equivalent; and
+ Certified as an Alcohol and Drug (AOD) Counselor,
with a certification recognized by The Department of Health Care Services
(DHCS) or willing to register upon hire.
+ Prior experience providing Single-Level Substance
Use and Disorder Treatment (SUDT) services to an offender population
preferred, not required.
+ Knowledge of the dynamics of
alcohol/drug related problems and their impact upon patients and their

+ The principles and techniques of rehabilitation
counseling and their application to individuals possessing chemical
+ Community resources available to persons with
alcohol/drug related problems;
+ The physiological and psychological effects of
chemical dependency;
+ General social, economic and health problems;
+ Ability to interview and counsel;
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships
with others;
+ Communicate effectively with others, both orally and
in writing;
+ Valid California (CA) Driver?s License.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
